Mike Safron (Drummer) still lives in St. Louis, Missouri and is the father of a 13 year old son. Mike is currently playing drums in a local R&B band.
Mike did lead a reformed band known as Pavlov’s Dog 2000 for a period of time. According to Mike, he added the “2000″ to the original name since he was the only original member. This band captured some of the early sound of the original group. They also released a CD of new songs on a local label in St. Louis, Missouri USA. Mike’s life is music. As a percussionist he began his career at age fifteen, playing rhythm and blues with Albert King. At age twenty he landed a drumming position with Chuck Berry’s band which also featured Billy Peek (a one time guitarist for Rod Stewart) and Johnnie Johnson, Chuck Berry’s original piano man. Mike moved on to become Bo Diddley’s drummer and then turned down an offer to tour Europe with Chuck Berry (at the time of the London Sessions album and My-Ding-A-Ling) to form his original band, Pavlov’s Dog.
The first album, “Pampered Menial” (ABC/CBS) still stands out as one of the great masterpieces in rock history selling double-platinum in Australia and Europe. In 1975, Safron’s original Pavlov’s Dog signed the largest recording contract for a new group. They toured the country and headlined over many other groups that have since become well established such as Journey, Heart, Nazareth, and Bob Seger.
